Obituary of Shirley Schaffner
Shirley E. Schaffner, 55, of Chillicothe passed away on August 1, 2018 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.
Shirley was born on Oct. 20, 1962 in Peoria the daughter of Verne "Bun" and Jean (Watson) Schaffner.
Surviving are her father, Verne Schaffner of St. Joseph’s Home in Lacon, brother, Wayne (Dianne) Schaffner of East Peoria, two sisters, Patti Schaffner of Chillicothe and Georgia Matsiori of Shabbona; nephews, Chris (Trudy) Schaffner of Delavan, Scott (Beth) Schaffner of Clinton, and Rick (Amanda Jimenez) Mertes of Chillicothe; great nieces and nephews, Blake, Charley, Grace, Claire and Chloe Schaffner, Jacob, Noah, Makenzie and Andrew Schaffner; great great niece, Willow Jean Schaffner, and her beloved cats, Frank, Henry, Callie and Eddie. Shirley also considered Joe, Kelsey and Kaitlyn Bruner her step children and granddaughter.
Shirley was a lifelong resident of Chillicothe. She helped manage the family farming operation, and also cared for both her mother and father in recent years. She was known for her infectious sense of humor, her kindness and generosity.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 6, 2018 at 11:00 am at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home, Chillicothe. Visitation will be held on Sunday afternoon from 2-4:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be held in the LaSalle Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Peoria Humane Society or to St. Joseph's Nursing Home in Lacon.
